The Best No Sodium Mustard
I find that most dishes, sauces, ingredients can be made from scratch and that is great. Being realistic though, there has to be salt free products that we can incorporate into the salt free life. Every day I find several products and I am always searching for more at local grocers, national chains, or easily on Amazon.com. One of the foundation pieces I need for my low sodium pantry is the best No Sodium Mustard.
Low Sodium Condiments Add Flavor
I have come to find that most dishes, sauces, ingredients can be made from scratch and that is great. Being realistic though, there has to be salt free products that can be incorporated into the salt free life. I have found several products and I am always searching for more that may be found at your local grocers, national chains, or easily on Amazon.com.
Products I cover will be included here if they meet the following criteria: I have used them and enjoy the taste, and I would use them to cook with. If a company ever gives me product to sample, I will disclose that as well, and it will be submitted to the above two criteria.
Building A Low Sodium Pantry
This first product was the foundation on which I started to build my salt free pantry and shopping list. Mustards in general are a great spice/sauce/condiment to replace the salt in your diet and palette. You would produce a Stone Ground Mustard by grinding brown mustard seeds with a stone mill to provide a coarse textured food spread.
Typically spicy, Stone Ground Mustard is a popular topping for sandwich meats and cheeses as well as a variety of sausages. As a condiment, it goes well on hearty dark breads, aged cheeses with a depth of flavor, and many different dry sausages (Wikipedia).
Westbrae Stone Ground Salt Free Mustard
Westbrae’s stone ground mustard is the best tasting salt free mustard I have found on the market. I, like most people, headed online to find products without salt. Basically because I’m a guy and usually didn’t bother reading the nutrition labels, and was clueless as to the amounts of hidden sodium in the foods I was eating. That has changed now. Boy are my eyes open! I had to do a bit of learning as well, as not all salt free/low sodium foods taste great. So after some trial and error, I found the Westbrae Mustard to be my go to choice.
It is great on sandwiches and in dipping sauces. I have also used this mustard as a glaze for Chicken, Wings, Fish, Pork, and on the Thanksgiving and Christmas Turkeys to have a heart healthy Holiday. Please let me know in the comments below what are your favorite uses for mustard. Have you found any low sodium or salt free mustards you like and recommend?
